AISL Harrow Prepares Guangzhou Campus for September 2026 Debut
A formal launch event for Harrow International School Guangzhou has been held, confirming the British-brand campus will open this September and adding a fifth city to AISL's mainland China footprint.
AISL Harrow has held a public launch event for its forthcoming Guangzhou campus, setting the stage for the school to open in September 2026, according to AISL Harrow Schools. The opening will mark another step in the group's steady expansion across China's Greater Bay Area and give Guangzhou, a city of more than 18 million people and a major hub for international business, its first Harrow-branded school.
AISL already operates Harrow campuses in Beijing, Shanghai, Haikou, Nanning, Hengqin, Chongqing and Shenzhen Qianhai, as well as in Bangkok and Hong Kong. Guangzhou will sit at the heart of its Greater Bay Area cluster, where the Shenzhen Qianhai campus opened in September 2023 as the group's fourth Harrow-branded site in the area. The new school will offer AISL Harrow's characteristic English National Curriculum pathway, leading to IGCSE and A Level examinations.
Growing the Greater Bay Area network
The timing reflects a broader pattern. Despite a general flattening of growth in China's international school market, AISL Harrow has accelerated its mainland expansion, with four of its schools recently placed in the top 15 of China's Innovative Competitiveness Ranking for international schools, assessed on international certification, faculty quality, social impact and expert review. The Guangzhou addition suggests the group is betting that brand recognition and the Harrow name still command a premium in a market where some smaller operators are under financial pressure.
Guangzhou's international school market has historically been thinner than Shanghai or Beijing, but demand has risen as the Bay Area integration project has brought more multinational executives and their families to the city. Schools such as Fettes College Guangzhou and several IB-aligned institutions have preceded Harrow, but the city has had limited British-brand provision at the premium end.
Scholarships and the wider group
In a related development, AISL Harrow has announced the winners of its fifth cohort of group-wide scholarships, available across its network for the 2026 to 2028 period. Guangzhou is not included in the inaugural scholarship list for the new campus, which is consistent with the group's practice of phasing in scholarship programmes once a school has completed its first intake. The opening will be closely watched by other British-brand operators weighing mainland China expansion at a time when regulatory conditions, expatriate numbers and local demand are all in flux.
