Wycombe Abbey Prepares to Open Its First Thai Campus in August

Wycombe Abbey International School Bangkok (WASBKK) is now in its final weeks of preparation before opening its doors in August 2026, bringing one of Britain's most recognised independent school names to Thailand for the first time. The campus will occupy the existing site of VERSO International School near Suvarnabhumi Airport, with the transition from the outgoing brand expected to complete ahead of the new academic year.

The school is a three-way partnership between Wycombe Abbey, Hong Kong-based education group BE Education, and Rabbit Holdings, a subsidiary of BTS Group Holdings, one of Thailand's largest infrastructure and property conglomerates. According to School Scanner Thailand, the Bangkok school will offer a British international curriculum including IGCSEs and A Levels, with full, weekly, and flexible boarding options from the outset alongside a day school route.

Part of a wider Asia push

Bangkok is not an isolated bet. Wycombe Abbey already operates campuses in Hong Kong, Changzhou, Hangzhou, and Nanjing through its exclusive Asia partnership with BE Education, and has separately confirmed future openings in Singapore and South Korea. The Bangkok announcement, first made in December 2025, positions Thailand as the newest node in what the group describes as an international ecosystem supporting student and staff exchanges, joint academic programmes, and shared pastoral standards.

Students will also have access to the sports amenities at Thana City Country Club, adjacent to the campus, covering golf, tennis, and squash, facilities that the school intends to weave into its co-curricular programme from year one. Founding Headteacher Fiona Angel will lead the school at opening.

Pressure on Bangkok's crowded British market

WASBKK arrives in a Bangkok market that is absorbing an unusually high number of new British-brand schools simultaneously. Dulwich College Bangkok, Highgate International School Thailand, and Glenalmond Phuket International School are all opening this same August, creating a competitive environment for founding enrolments that city operators have not seen before. For families weighing options, the Wycombe Abbey name carries particular weight in the boarding segment, where it has few direct competitors at the Bangkok secondary level.

Whether the market can comfortably absorb four new premium British campuses in a single intake cycle will be one of the more closely watched stories of Thailand's education sector this coming academic year.
